  • Plantain has a long history of use in North America, earning a place in Native American history as well as in English herbal literature dating to the early 1600s.  While plantain thrives with little requirements, this little plant has served as a nutritious source of food in times of scarcity. The leaf is abundant in vitamins A and B1 and several minerals, including calcium.  Plantain is commonly used in tea blends.  Dried plantain is used to produce teas, tonics and infusions. The plant contains a compound called aucubin, one of several iridoid glycosides that plants use as defense from pathogens, which makes it ideal for infused oils and tinctures for topical use.
